For the last several days we have been on the countdown for Doran to get his cast off. He broke his arm 6 weeks ago yesterday and the forearm bones take six weeks to heal. His appointment to get it off was today! The last several days it has been 6 days to go! 5 days to go! 3 days to go! Tomorrow is the day! He has been so happy! He has been ready to swim and bath! The cast that was put on was water-proof, but we didn't really know what that meant so he never got it wet. (Come to find out today by the awesome doctor we switched him to, that they did it wrong and if we had got his cast wet like they said we could his arm would have rotted! Just another reason we are glad we switched!)
So we got there and after he had his x-rays done and we were in his room we did a mini photo shoot of his cast since it would be gone! He was so happy! He wanted to make sure we got a picture of the puppy Grandma G drew for him.
Our neighbor cop signed his cast too. Doran thought that was awesome! I think his favorite signatures were Jayce's (just because it was her) and Seth's.
Then the doctor came in... We had known all along that he wanted him to be in a splint cast after this, but we could take it on and off and be much more normal. The doctor was worried about him being to active for a splint and that he could easily refracture it considering how crooked and weak it is right now. He highly suggested that we put him in a new cast just below his elbow for three more weeks so his bone could get stronger. Obviously we knew the best thing was to get another cast. At that point Doran didn't smile much more!
The nurse came in to take his cast off. He would not smile at her or even talk to her. He was so scared, but he was so brave.
After the cast was off we wanted to hurry and clean under it really good since it was getting pretty dirty! His arm is so crooked! It was pretty crazy to look at and feel.
I don't feel like any of the pictures show how crooked his arm really is. This one is close though.
He could pick any cast color and he decided on the lime green! It was pretty suprising to Seth and I that he picked that color, but it actually looks pretty cool!
The nurse did a great job putting Dordor's new cast on. She did it really nice and tight to make sure it doesn't settle anymore. (What the first cast should have been like to avoid all of this!) He was in a lot of pain for the rest of the day. I gave him some ibuprofen when we got home and he was still so pale and wouldn't more his arm and elbow. He has been holding his arm most of the day to keep it from moving and he says it hurts inside of it. I hope it gets feeling better fast! The one great thing about this new cast (both he and Brock think it is awesome) is that it really is waterproof (unlike the first one!)! He can swim, bath, run through sprinklers, anything! So even though he has a cast on, it isn't going to slow him down!

That makes me so sick to see how crooked his arm is! Poor little guy! At least you found a doctor who knows what he's doing. I love the new green cast!
Ohh that is really crooked coley! He is brave! I hated have my cast on my ankle I like and said it hurt too much that they had to take it off...HUGE Mistake...anyways! You have a tough little guy!
