The Scar

 Doran was so excited to get his stitches out yesterday morning. As we were walking into the ER he said that he can't wait to see his new scar. The nurse took out his stitches and then she started freaking me out. She was upset that he wasn't put on an antibiotic and then she was upset that there wasn't an internal layer of stitches. After they were out she said she had to get the doctor to come and look at it. It has a little infection in each end and already was opening up a little after. He said that h e wasn't concerned about the infection because it looked so small. He said the skin was really vulnerable because it was so deep so he needs to be very careful for the next few months.

I took him over to my neighbor lady who is a nurse to get her opinion and get some peace of mind. She said she would have never taken the stitches out yet. She told me to give it twenty four hours to see if it gets any worse. So that is what we decided to do... A couple of hours later it was already looking less pink.

 Today there is a wider gap on the cut line and it did split open a little on one end and bleed, but over all I feel like it is doing better. The pictures can't quite capture the unevenness of the wound. The upper edge of it sits a lot higher than the lower edge, like a ridge. It will be interesting to see how it heels. Seth and I have decided we are never going to the American Fork ER again. They messed up Doran's arm two years ago when he broke it. I didn't think there was anyway they could mess up stitches, but I think they did on every level; no antibiotic, no internal layer when one was clearly needed, and then taking out the stitches when the shouldn't have been.
